Watersheds

It’s a territory naturally delimited by drainage divides, not by administrative regions. A watershed is an area of land where all of the water that falls on it or moves under it drains into a common area, such as a river, lake, reservoir, or the sea. Consequently, mountain ridges and grounds slopes determine water flow, and so watershed limits.

Integrated Watershed Management

The integrated watershed management is a management approach that takes in consideration all the activities that may have an impact on water resources within drainage divides. This approach allows including all stakeholder’s interests and concerns, while involving them in the decision-making process. It also allows to establish a shared vision and to ensure an effective coordination of actions undertaken on the territory.

The coordination of integrated watershed management plans in Quebec relies on Watershed organizations (Organismes de bassin versant, OBV).
