Characterization of Dix-Huit Arpents and Grand Marais waterways

Dix-Huit Arpents and Grand Marais waterways are Saint-Zotique canals tributaries. Sediment loading and eutrophication are important problems in these canals. Therefore for proper circulation of water crafts, these canals require annual dredging and water weed cutting. Good knowledge of these watersheds was necessary to understand sources of sediments and nutrients inputs.

Riparian quality index (Indice de qualité des bandes riveraines (IQBR)) was measured, such as width of riparian strips, erosion, sedimentation, obstacles and invasive species. Water quality was analyzed from June 2015 to May 2016 by measuring suspended solids, phosphate, dissolved oxygen, turbidity and pH for a total of 12 samplings.

This project was carried out in partnership with Vaudreuil-Soulanges RCM, Saint-Zotique Municipality, Concordia University and the Comité ZIP du Haut-St-Laurent.
